Pearl of the Orient

Through my prints, I want to capture Singapore’s diverse ethnicity, culture, and custom, as well as the dynamic and busy lifestyle, over-crowdedness, and the equatorial climate of Singapore. At the same time, the opaque white wash with cut out circles is used to highlight the systematic, orderly and clean city.

The actual process of printing is almost as important as the work itself. While I randomly print, I repeatedly abandon and enhance some images to create the most interesting combination. I often discovered unexpected results created by this process.

Finally I squeeze the white ink through the mesh- and then the chaotically scattered images fall into a good order, just like magic. It seems like dynamic characters and energies from various cultures are prospering inside of a perfect arrangement of law and discipline.
